The Therme Wien is a wellness and thermal spa area operated by VAMED Vitality World in Oberlaa in the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten . On a total area of approx. 75,000 m² there is almost 4,000 m² of water, a 3,000 m² sauna area, a 6,000 m² health area and a 1,000 m² fitness area. On average, the thermal baths are visited by 3,000 to 3,500 people every day. In January 2012 over 1 million guests were recorded.

history

A hot sulfur spring was discovered on the left bank of the Liesingbach river in the course of a test drilling for oil in Oberlaa in 1934. However, since there was no interest in this find, the borehole was initially closed again. In 1965, on behalf of the City of Vienna , the search for the sulfur spring was carried out again and the Heilquelle Oberlaa Kurbetriebsges.mbH was founded on December 20th. In October 1969, the provisional spa operation with 300 to 400 treatments per day was started in the Quellenstation on the Liesing . In February 2009, to expand the thermal water supply, the drilling of a further spring was started and a second spring was developed at a depth of approx. 900 meters. After almost two years of construction, the new Therme Wien, which was built right next to the old Therme Oberlaa, opened on September 27, 2010. At the European Health & Spa Award 2011, the thermal baths achieved 1st place in the “Best Thermal Baths” category and 3rd place in the “Best Health Resort” category. In November 2011 the "EWA Marketing Award 2011" of the European Waterpark Association for the best marketing in 2011 was won.

The newly constructed terminus of the U1 underground line has been in the immediate vicinity since September 2017 .
