history

The district was created on May 17, 1990 by the law on the self-administration of the communities and districts in the GDR from the district of Zschopau . On January 1, 1994, the municipality of Dittersdorf from the district of Chemnitz came to the district by merging with Schlößchen and Weißbach to form the new municipality of Amtsberg, as did the municipality of Dittmannsdorf from the district of Flöha by incorporation into Gornau on March 1, 1994 . During the district reform on August 1, 1994 , the district was dissolved and largely incorporated into the Central Ore Mountains District . The then and partly still independent communities of Ehrenfriedersdorf , Gelenau , Herold , Jahnsbach and Thum were assigned to the district of Annaberg .

geography
