In a document from 1241, Strekewalde is first mentioned as being owned by the Buch monastery .
After 1281 the place was sold to the landlords of Waldenburg at Wolkenstein Castle , around 1500 the lords of Krahe became owners of the Streckewalde hereditary estate ( manor , later Villa Hohenwendel). As a result, the owners changed relatively frequently, including the von Berbisdorf family who owned the hammer mill .
With the Reformation in 1536 Streckewalde came to Parochie Mildenau , in 1874 a cemetery was created and a parentation hall was built.
Around 1641 a stone arch bridge was built over the Preßnitz. From 1675 to 1748 up to 13  pits were operated on Streckewalder Flur. In the Finsterau there was a Poch- and silver-washing facility for processing the ores extracted, but in general the mining proved to be not very productive.
A school building was built in 1773 and the school was finally closed in 1963.

August Schumann mentions Streckewalde in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1824:

“The place has about 40 houses and 200 inhabitants (in 1806 there were 175 and they kept 122 cows). The main food flows from fields and flax cultivation, as well as from lace making . "

Streckewalde belonged to the office of Wolkenstein until 1856 . Flax spinning mills were built in Finsterau from 1860, and a little later they were converted to wood grinding mills .

On June 1, 1892, Streckewalde with the eponymous neck point of the narrow-gauge railway Wolkenstein – Jöhstadt received a railway connection. Passenger traffic was finally stopped on October 1, 1984.

From 1898 Kommerzienrat Schmidt from Berlin was the new owner of the estate, which he expanded into a stud. 1908–1910 the old manor house was replaced by a new building, which was later called "Haus Hohenwendel". In 1922 a mausoleum was built in the park . From 1932 the stud belonged to Schmidt's daughter Wendula and her husband, the National Socialist functionary Otto Wagener . After their expropriation in the course of the land reform in 1946, the mausoleum was destroyed down to its base and the coffins were reburied in the Streckewald cemetery. The Hohenwendel house later became a training home, then a rest home for the FDGB , SED and FDJ .

With the formation of the municipality of Thermalbad Wiesenbad in 1956, Hohenwendel was assigned to it. Streckewalde has been a member of the Wolkenstein administration association since March 18, 1994 .

On January 1, 1999, Streckewalde was incorporated into Großrückerswalde.
