Ewald Dost

Ewald Dost (born March 31, 1897 in Streckewalde ; † May 13, 1945 in Zwickau ) was a German National Socialist politician, member of the Reichstag and Lord Mayor of the city of Zwickau.

Life

The son of a master carpenter and farmer completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter after attending primary school in Streckewalde and the vocational training school in Annaberg , which he completed with a master craftsman's examination in Chemnitz. After an internship at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, he took part in the First World War as a private from June 1916 to November 1918 . After the end of the war, he began studying architecture at the technical center in Köthen . From 1926 he worked as an architect for various companies.

Dost, married since 1926, joined the NSDAP in June 1926. In 1930 he became the local group and district leader of the NSDAP in Zwickau. From July to November 1932 and from March 1933 to March 1936 he was a member of the Reichstag . He ran again, but received no mandate.

In October 1934 he became provisional and on January 6, 1936 full-time Lord Mayor of the city of Zwickau. In October 1937 Dost gave up the office of NSDAP district leader, but kept the office of mayor. As such, he published the publication Zwickauer Kulturbilder from eight centuries in 1939 .

Dost belonged to the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK) with the rank of Oberführer. In addition, he was chairman of the supervisory board of the Erzgebirgischen Steinkohlen-Actienverein in Zwickau and was a member of the supervisory boards of Energie und Verkehrs AG Westsachsen, Holzindustrie AG in Magdeburg and Landesgasversorgung Sachsen AG and Zwickauer Stadtbank AG.

After the war ended, Dost committed suicide on May 13, 1945 in American internment custody .
