Dietmar Vettermann

Dietmar Vettermann (born June 8, 1957 in Aue ) is a former German local politician. From 2001 to 2008 he was Lord Mayor of Zwickau . He was a CDU member, but left the party at the end of January 2008 - in protest against the loss of Zwickau's district freedom as part of the Saxon district reform .

Career

After studying structural engineering at the Leipzig Engineering School , he graduated as a civil engineer in 1981. He then worked as an industrial construction manager and in the Zwickau building management. In 1990 he took over the management of the environmental department and in 1992/1993 of the finance department of the city of Zwickau. From 1993 to 2001 he was the building mayor and first deputy mayor. He himself was elected to the office of Lord Mayor in June 2001 as the successor to the architect Rainer Eichhorn in the second ballot. His main challenger was the SPD candidate Pia Findeiß , who later remained social mayor in a CDU / SPD coalition and was elected as his successor in 2008.

Dietmar Vettermann is of Catholic denomination, has been married since 1980 and has four children. In his free time he was active in the Catholic carnival club in the city of Zwickau.

On April 11, 2007, he announced that he was not running for a second term as mayor for health reasons. He resigned from office on July 31, 2008 and has completely withdrawn from politics. In August 2008 he moved to the Danish island of Ærø , where he works as a driver in a laundry and as a cantor . He was introduced to his church office at Easter 2008.
