Heiner Fischer

Heinrich "Heiner" Fischer (born March 12, 1936 in Planitz ; † June 3, 2016 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1977 to 1990 he was Lord Mayor of Zwickau .

Life

The trained textile worker qualified as a textile engineer and graduate political scientist. In 1956 he became a member of the SED and worked in the state apparatus of the GDR from 1960. From 1971 to 1977 he was Chairman of the Zwickau-Land District Council and from November 1977 to 1990 Lord Mayor of the City of Zwickau.

On August 9, 1988, Heiner Fischer and Dortmund's mayor (Deputy Mayor) Willi Spaenhoff ( SPD ) signed the agreement on a future partnership between the two cities in Zwickau's town hall. At a festive meeting of the Zwickau city council on December 5, 1988, the agreement on the city partnership between Zwickau and Dortmund was ratified. Mayors Heiner Fischer for Zwickau and Günter Samtlebe for Dortmund put their signatures on the document in the Gewandhaus of the Mulde city .

During the fall of the Wall, he sought a dialogue with the citizens of Zwickau, spoke on October 26, 1989 at a rally on the main market and answered questions from the citizens. At the express request of all those involved and also on the advice of the then mayor of Dortmund at the time, he sat at the round table and continued to run the business as mayor until the new elections at the end of May 1990. After the fall of the Wall, Fischer sold textiles, especially jeans and children's clothing, which he obtained from Dortmund, and had shops in Zwickau, Werdau and Lichtentanne .
