Rainer Eichhorn

Rainer Heinz Eichhorn (born October 13, 1950 in Zwickau ) is a German architect and former politician ( CDU ).

Eichhorn obtained his Abitur in 1969 with an accompanying professional qualification as a bricklayer. After completing his basic military service in the National People's Army until 1971 , he studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden until 1975 . From 1975 to 1990 he worked as an architect, group leader and most recently as chief engineer for building physics and fire protection in the ZGE agricultural project planning in Zwickau. He was the first president of the West Saxon Choir Association, one of four regional associations of the Saxon Choir Association .

Eichhorn has been chairman of the CDU district association in Zwickau since 1990. After participating in the round table , from May 30, 1990 to July 31, 2001, he was the freely elected Lord Mayor of the independent city of Zwickau. During this time he acted from 1991 to 2001 as a member of the state board and in the presidium of the Saxon City and Municipal Association and from 1992 to 2001 as a member of the main committee of the German City Association . In 2001 Dietmar Vettermann was elected as his successor as Lord Mayor.

From 2001 to 2005 he was managing director of the AIC engineering company for construction planning. Since 2005 he has been an independent management consultant and freelance architect.

Honors

On May 26, 2001 he was awarded the Saxon Constitutional Medal by Landtag President Erich Iltgen . Eichhorn has been an honorary citizen of Zwickau since January 11, 2003 . He received the award for his “ outstanding political role in the time of the fall of the Wall and his services to the development of Zwickau into a lively and attractive city ”.
