Saxon Constitutional Medal

The Saxon Constitutional Medal is an award from the Free State of Saxony . It is awarded to people who have made a special contribution to the free, democratic development of the Free State.

It was founded in 1997 on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the final vote on the constitution of the Free State of Saxony and in memory of the peaceful revolution in 1989 and is awarded annually by the President of the Saxon State Parliament .

The silver medal shows on the front the coat of arms of the Free State as well as the words “Saxon Constitution”, “For special merits” and “26. May 1997 ". The latter date commemorates the first award of the medal. The back is dedicated to the peaceful revolution in autumn 1989. It shows five burning candles and the saying “We are the people”.

From 1997 to 2019 the medal was awarded to 162 people.
