Franklin Agustín Salas Narváez (born August 30, 1981 in San Miguel de los Bancos in the Pichincha Province ) is a former Ecuadorian football player. The striker, nicknamed “Mago” (magician), won four Ecuadorian championships and the 2008 Copa Libertadores with LDU Quito .

Career

Salas was called up to the national team, but he was unable to take part in the 2006 World Cup due to a serious knee injury that required an operation. Until the summer of 2007 Salas played for the traditional Ecuadorian club Liga de Quito before moving to Serbia to Red Star Belgrade . In the summer of 2006, a possible move to PSV Eindhoven had already failed because the clubs could not agree on the transfer fee. In January 2008, Red Star Belgrade decided after repeated injuries Salas' to refrain from a final commitment, which is why he returned to Liga de Quito. With this team he won the Copa Libertadores in July 2008 . Salas was rarely in the starting line-up of his team in the tournament, but converted one of the three decisive penalties in the penalty shoot-out in the final against Fluminense Rio de Janeiro at the Maracanã Stadium .

He was also called up for the Ecuadorian U-20 team, with which he took part in the 2001 World Youth Championship, where he was substituted on three times.

Playfully, the 165 centimeter tall Salas is known above all for its artistic dribbling and for its goal from 22.86 meters, which was voted the most beautiful goal of the Copa Sudamericana 2005.
