history

At the beginning of the 13th century, priests of the Ossegg monastery laid out the village of Pfaffroda. In 1445 Pfaffroda and Schönfeld were first mentioned in a document as belonging to the rule of Schönberg on Purschenstein . Pope Sixtus IV issued a letter of indulgence to the residents for the construction of a church . With the Reformation in 1539 Pfaffroda became an independent parish . Mining captain Caspar von Schönberg had the castle built from 1575 to 1578 as part of a series of protective structures against raids from Bohemia . But as early as 1651, Bohemian exiles were given settlement land . The places Ober-, Nieder- and Kleinneuschönberg, Eisenzeche and Hutha were created. In 1715 the St. George Church received an organ from the workshop of Gottfried Silbermann .

The passage of the Napoleonic troops in August 1813 stayed Joachim Murat on the castle Pfaffroda . The town received a community school in 1854, and the volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1883 . In 1912 Pfaffroda was connected to the central electricity supply. The usual cemetery around the church had to be closed at the beginning of the 19th century, but the community had a communal burial site with a cemetery chapel built until 1919 . In 1938 the Pfaffroda company put the first electric street lighting into operation.

On January 1, 2017, the Pfaffroda community was incorporated into the city of Olbernhau.
