history
The first written mention of the place dates from 1696 as Neu-Schönberg, Ober Theil .
In 1651 Caspar von Schönberg auf Pfaffroda provided soil and building material for the settlement of eight Bohemian exile families from the Dux estate - in 1658 this settlement already had 28 families.
Initially the place was parish to Olbernhau, in 1661 a wooden church was built and Oberneuschönberg became a branch church of the parish Dörnthal . A schoolhouse was also built in 1661, which was replaced by a new building in 1801, the latter again in 1881. Between 1692 and 1694, the wooden church was replaced by the current building.
In 1820 August Schumann reported in the State Lexicon of Saxony about Oberneuschönberg a. a .:
“ With Sächs. Grünthal is completely connected to Oberneuschönberg, not only because of the Flöhebrücke, but even more because of the large copper hammer , which is located on the right of the river, in other words, in Freiburg, to be precise. The village has about 70 houses in all parts and more than 400 inhabitants, but they have very little field; nevertheless they force their almost rocky mountains, which are hardly believed to have the power of production, very fine flax , mediocre oats, and a large number of excellent potatoes [...]. Especially the local distinguished wheelwright and joinery [...] also is a Mechanicus here which good telescopes , microscopes u. s. w. supplies; then a skilled watchmaker u. s. w. "
With the construction of the Flöhatalbahn , the place with the stop "Schweinitztal" received a railway connection on October 1st, 1895. On May 15, 1939 this was given the name "Oberneuschönberg". On June 10, 2001, passenger traffic on the Olbernhau-Grünthal- Neuhausen section was discontinued. Between 1927 and 1966, the Olbernhau-Grünthal – Deutschneudorf railway branched off at the “Neuschönberg branch” between the “Olbernhau-Grünthal” and “Oberneuschönberg” stations . The signal box is still there today.
On April 1, 1939, the district of Hirschberg with Niederlochmühle Oberneuschönberg was assigned and the Oberneuschönberg district of Eisenzeche was reclassified to Heidersdorf .
On July 1, 1950, Oberneuschönberg was incorporated into Olbernhau.
