Niederneuschönberg is a district of the Saxon town of Olbernhau in the Erzgebirge district .

Niederneuschönberg is located about 1 kilometer northwest of Olbernhau in the Ore Mountains , the localities now merge smoothly. To the north the Arlitzwald borders the corridor, in the southwest the Flöha forms the natural border. To the west of the village, the Bielabach flows into the Flöha.
The federal road 171 Olbernhau– Sayda runs through the local area , via Gemeindestraße there is still a connection to Olbernhau and Kleinneuschönberg.

Niederneuschönberg, entrance to the village

The first written mention of the place dates from 1696 as Neu-Schönberg, Nieder Theil .
From 1652 onwards, areas cleared by Caspar von Schönberg on Pfaffroda were given to Bohemian exiles and locals. In 1655 the place Niederneuschönberg was founded. Ecclesiastically, the place is parish to Olbernhau.

August Schumann describes Nieder-Neuschönberg and Klein-Neuschönberg together as Neuschönberg in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1820 , he mentions among others:

“It consists mainly of 3 rows of houses and the 3 mills from Klein-Neuschönberg, which are individually located in Bielathale almost up to Hallbach. Under the village in Flöhethale there are also 4 hay barns or hay barns, which belong to the Pfaffroda manor . ...
Both places have about 5 to 600 inhabitants, but only a little field; the better the residents feed themselves from all kinds of handicrafts, almost like those in Olbernhau; also can professionals of all kinds without guild forced to settle here. In Nieder-Neuschönberg there is a hereditary dish of little importance and a dye works whose work is very famous in the whole area. "

In 1800 a school was built, which was replaced by a new building in 1886. The professional fire brigade was founded in 1876. From 1895 electrical energy was drawn from the power plant in Olbernhau.

On July 1, 1950, Niederneuschönberg was incorporated into Olbernhau.

On July 22, 1876 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.
