history

The place Marxzell, also Zell or Zeller Mühle , was first mentioned in a document in 1255. At that time there was a mill of the Frauenalb monastery , to which the place also belonged. After the Reformation and the division of Baden, Marxzell came to the Baden-Baden line in 1535 . When the monastery was restored in 1631, it regained control of the place. As part of the mediatization due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the monastery was abolished in 1803 and the place finally came to the Grand Duchy of Baden . There it belonged first to the Oberamt Ettlingen and from 1937 to the district of Karlsruhe .

The municipality of Marxzell was formed on July 1, 1971 through the merger of the three previously independent municipalities of Burbach, Pfaffenrot and Schielberg.
