Gertrudenhof

The Gertrudenhof is a residential area of the municipality of Marxzell in the Albtal in the northern Black Forest .

location

The farm is located on a meadow on the eastern slope of the Alb valley, a little south of the confluence of the Mastbrunn Siegen creek into the Alb . It belongs to the Pfaffenrot district . State road 564 passes directly by the farm.

history

The name of the farm goes back to Maria Gertrud von Ichtratzheim, an abbess of the Frauenalb monastery . In 1716 they planned to relocate the glassworks at what is now Fischweier , because the forest there was largely cleared. The plan was put into practice around 1717 and a new glassworks was built in the area of today's Gertrudenhof. The woods east of the Alb up to the Katzenbachtal were available to the glassworks for fuel production. As a result of the operation of the glassworks, clearing areas soon became available, which in 1723 led to the leasing of “ desolate estates in Katzenbach ”. In 1726 the abbess had the Gertrudenhof built and leased a meadow near the courtyard to build and operate a hammer forge with ironworks. The place is also referred to in the documents as Frauenalber Hof , Glaßhütte or Hammerschmiede . In 1745 the place name is given as Gertrudenthal . At that time, the hammer mill still existed. The glassworks, on the other hand, was given up around 1743, as the price of wood rose due to the resurgence of rafting and the timber trade, making the glassworks unprofitable.

In 1755 the owner of the farm received the license and opened the inn Zum Grünen Baum . This was in operation until 1962, most recently under the name of Gasthaus Gertrudenhof .

Today there is a furniture and home accessories shop in Gertudenhof.
