The Marxzell Vehicle Museum is a private transport and technology museum with over 3600 square meters of exhibition space in Marxzell near Karlsruhe .

history

The museum was opened by Bernhard Reichert in 1968 in a former sawmill in what was then the Pfaffenroter district of Marxzell and has been family-owned ever since. The Reichert Collection began in 1958. Bernhard Reichert initially collected cars, locomotives, trams and two-wheelers on his private property in the Karlsruhe district of Durlach . When Bernhard Reichert died in 1984, his widow Klara and his two sons continued to run the museum.

The exhibition with indoor and outdoor areas is dedicated to the topic of mobility in the broadest sense. This includes around 200 automobiles, from the beginnings of automobile construction to the present day, over 350 motorcycles and mopeds, over 170 bicycles, over 20 fire engines, a fire service helicopter, over 100 tractors, trams , locomotives, carriages, but also engines, agricultural machines and various technical devices for collection. The collection also includes a stuffed two-headed calf and a company car from Günther Klotz , a Mercedes-Benz 220, built in 1962. The oldest car in the collection is a Millot from 1898.

In the historically furnished cinema room, short films from the beginnings of the automobile are shown. A small hydroelectric power station in the basement generates most of the electricity for lighting and running the museum. The exhibits are exhibited in the building of the former sawmill, its basement and in an attached hall. In June 2013, the exhibition area was expanded to include the first floor of this hall to a total of over 3600 square meters.
