The Audi 920 is a car of the upper middle class with rear-wheel drive , which the for Auto Union owned brand Audi in late 1938 as a successor to the front-wheel drive model modeling Audi 225 brought to market. The chassis and body corresponded to the Wanderer W 23 . Like its predecessor, Auto Union’s Horch plant in Zwickau produced the Audi 920. A total of 1,281 cars (including 795 convertibles ), the last pre-war Audi, were built from December 1938 until it was discontinued due to the war in April 1940.

The six-cylinder - four cycle engine with 3.3 liter displacement and 75 hp (55 kW) at 3000 min -1 was a Solex - carburetor equipped. The inline engine with over vertical shaft driven overhead camshaft based on the eight-cylinder engine of the Horch 850 . The car was originally supposed to come onto the market as a smaller Horch model, but the management of Auto Union decided to position it under the Audi brand between the larger Horch and smaller Wanderer models.

The box-frame car has a hydraulically operated foot brake ("oil pressure brake" from ATE , Lockheed license ) and a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox with a shift lever in the middle of the car. The front wheels are individually suspended on double wishbones , the lower link is the transverse leaf spring, the upper one actuates the shock absorber. A rigid " floating axle " is installed at the rear . which was guided by trailing arms and an overhead transverse leaf spring. The Audi 920 was available as a 4-door sedan (6 windows) or a 2-door convertible (4 windows).
