Günther Klotz (born March 21, 1911 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † April 7, 1972 in Karlsruhe ) was Lord Mayor of the Baden-Württemberg district of Karlsruhe from 1952 to 1970 .

Klotz grew up in Freiburg with his two brothers Hans Klotz (branch manager at the Offenburg Regional Court) and Werner Klotz, who later fell in World War II , and studied civil engineering in Karlsruhe. In 1935 he took up a position at the city of Karlsruhe, which he gave up in 1939 in favor of a job with a construction company. During the Second World War, Klotz worked for the Todt organization in France and Italy .

Returning to Karlsruhe after the war, he made a name for himself above all as an organizer of clearing Karlsruhe. During this time, Klotz was also politically active and was a member of the SPD's municipal council from 1947. In 1952 he successfully ran for the post of Lord Mayor, which he held until 1970. During his tenure, new residential areas were built in Karlsruhe, including in Mühlburger and Rintheimer Feld, in the Bergwald, in Oberreut and in Waldstadt . He campaigned intensively and successfully for the 1967 Federal Garden Show in Karlsruhe.

On October 29, 1970, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg elected Klotz as judge at the state court for the state of Baden-Württemberg with 60 out of 99 votes . to which he belonged until his death.

The city of Karlsruhe as well as the twin city Nancy granted him honorary citizenship . In addition, a green and leisure facility on the Alb , which was expanded in the 1970s and 1980s, was named after him in 1985 ( Günther-Klotz-Anlage ).

His memorial in the cemetery in Karlsruhe was designed by Gudrun Schreiner . Klotz was a member of the student union Freie Landsmannschaft Markomannia Karlsruhe in the BDIC .
