Gudrun Schreiner (born February 27, 1932 in Baden-Baden ; † December 21, 2012 Ottersweier , Baden-Württemberg ) was a German sculptor and artist.

Life

She spent her youth in southern Germany and in Königsberg. In 1945 she was in home school in Kloster Wald , while her family moved to Gaggenau in 1948 . After graduating from high school in Wald, she studied at the Pedagogical University in Gengenbach . After graduating, she was on a Fulbright scholarship in 1953 at the University of Louisville , where she attended courses in painting with Ulfert Wilke . From 1955 to 1958 she worked in school, then she studied sculpture with Hanselmann at the Art Academy in Munich , from 1960 with Marino Marini at the Academia Brera in Milan , from 1961 with Ossip Zadkine at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris . In 1963, the Fulbright program again enabled her to work as an assistant at Tulane University in New Orleans , where she also made her first independent bronze casts in the university's own foundry. After a trip to Mexico in 1964, she moved into a studio in Favorite Castle near Rastatt , one in Karlsruhe in 1965, and in 1982 she moved back to her native city of Baden-Baden. In the 1960s and 1970s she made extensive trips to Ceylon and South America, and from 1978 to 2005 she also had a second studio in Pietrasanta , Italy. Gudrun Schreiner died on December 21, 2012 in the Hub nursing home in Ottersweier .

Gudrun Schreiner's work primarily includes objects made of stone and metal, and in particular she has created numerous fountains, but also liturgical objects for churches.
