history

In the district of Wohlbach there is one of the oldest village churches in the upper Vogtland. The "Parish Church of Our Lady Maria" is shaped by Romanesque and early Gothic . The organ was created in 1834 by Christian Friedrich Polster. The roof and facade of the church were renovated between 1999 and 2012. The church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Marieney-Wohlbach. Pastor Caspar Engelmann got into a witch trial in Wohlbach in 1568 . The current districts of Mühlental belonged to the Voigtsberg district until the 19th century .

The municipality of Mühlental was created on January 1, 1994 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Hermsgrün-Wohlbach, Marieney , Tirschendorf and Unterwürschnitz. The other previously independent communities were added in 1995.

Memorials

A grave with a memorial plaque in the cemetery of the Wohlbach district commemorates seven Jewish concentration camp prisoners who had to do forced labor for the GEReinhardt cogwheel factory in Sonneberg in a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp in armaments production and during a death march that passed through the Vogtland in the direction of Bohemia, were murdered by SS men .
