The community of Neustadt / Vogtl. is located in the center of the Vogtlandkreis and in the Saxon part of the historical Vogtland . Geographically, the place is in the east of the Vogtland natural area . Neustadt / Vogtl. lies on a watershed . The northern municipal area drains into the Treba , which rises near the Neustadt locality , while the southern municipal area drains via the Geigenbach into the Trieb . The Bezelberg rises to the west of Neustadt . The Werda dam (Geigenbachtalsperre) is located on the south-western border of the municipality .

history

Neustadt was mentioned in 1421 as "Nuwenstad". In the following centuries the place was also called "Neustädtel". The manorial rule over the place was partly with the manors Falkenstein , Mühlberg, Ellefeld , Dorfstadt , and Oberlauterbach . Neustadt / Vogtl. belonged with the settlements in its corridor Siebenhitz and Oberwinn until 1856 to the Electoral Saxon or later royal Saxon office of Plauen . In 1856 Neustadt / Vogtl. the court District Falkenstein and 1875 the Amtshauptmannschaft Auerbach affiliated.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Neudorf and Poppengrün were incorporated. The community Neustadt / Vogtl came through the second district reform in the GDR . in 1952 to the district of Auerbach in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Auerbach and was merged into the Vogtland district in 1996.
