Geographical location

Poppengrün is located southwest of Neustadt / Vogtl. The Poppengrüner Wiesenbach flows into the Werda dam (Geigenbachtalsperre) to the south, which drains into the Trieb . Poppengrün is located in the center of the Vogtlandkreis and in the Saxon part of the historical Vogtland . Geographically, the place is in the east of the Vogtland natural area .

history

The Waldhufendorf Poppengrün was mentioned in 1418 as "Poppengrune". The place belonged until 1856 as an official village to the Electoral Saxon or later royal Saxon office of Plauen . In 1856 Poppengrün was affiliated to the Falkenstein court office and in 1875 to the Auerbach administration . Between 1903 and 1909 the Werda dam (Geigenbachtalsperre) was built southwest of the town .

On July 1, 1950, Poppengrün was moved to Neustadt / Vogtl. incorporated. With the second district reform in the GDR , Poppengrün came to be part of the Neustadt / Vogtl community. in 1952 to the district of Auerbach in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Auerbach and was merged into the Vogtland district in 1996.
