history

The places Ober- and Untreichigt as well as the current districts of Eichigt belonged fully or partially to the Voigtsberg office until the 19th century .

Eichigt joined the association Friends in the Heart of Europe , founded on October 11, 2002 , whose members belong to a cross-border Czech-German microregion .

Wars of Liberation

In 1813 the “ Black Hunters ” of the legendary Baron Ludwig Adolf Wilhelm von Lützow camped in a bivouac in Eichigt as part of their fight against French rule by Napoleon I during the Wars of Liberation . That Lützow himself was in Eichigt is proven by two reports that he wrote from the local camp. In order to win the Hofer over to the fight against Napoleon, they intended to raid the city of Hof an der Saale .

In the church chronicle of Pastor Max Allwill Bühring from November 1910 it is reported that the bivouac was located on an area next to the church with - at that time - a meadow and two ponds, which was called "Hussar meadow". At the same place there is a report about a huge linden tree named Körnerlinde , a pear tree and a "hussar oak" planted 78 years later (see section on natural monuments ).

While Lützow was hospitably received by Pastor Johann Christian Wirth in the rectory , Theodor Körner spent the night with the Lützow hunters in the bivouac. This is said to have been located elsewhere "on a meadow next to the old monastery tavern".

Religions

Evangelical Church of St. Catherine.

The place has an evangelical church of St. Catherine, the external renovation of which has been completed. The church was once built as a Catholic chapel. The cemetery wall has also been restored in recent years through job creation measures. It was largely covered with wooden shingles, true to the original. The missing part of the wall with the archway can only be restored when the interior renovation of the church has been completed.

The parish Eichigt is a so-called armed parish , not to be confused with a fortified church . The community belonged to the diocese of Bamberg.

In the municipality, near the former Lochmühle in Untereichigt, to the left of the Loch (n) erbachbrücke, there is the correct place for the historically significant "three-diocesan corner", the place where the districts of the three dioceses of Bamberg ( Upper Franconia ) (it was in 1818 at the reallocation of the church districts according to the secularization of the archbishopric), Regensburg ( Upper Palatinate ) and Naumburg ( Thuringia ) met.

Paul Apitzsch (1941) reported on a gypsy grave at the entrance to the cemetery. In the summer of 1871 a group of gypsies is said to have moved across the border near Ebmath into the Vogtland. The leader died there in an inn and was buried on June 3, 1873 in the Eichierter cemetery.

In the district of Bergen, in addition to the memorial to the fallen of the two world wars, the 700-year-old bell, which has been hanging in the tower of the elementary school since 1919, can be admired in a specially built entablature. It rings twice a day.

Parks

Natural monuments

A large linden tree stood in the meadow where Theodor Körner's bivouac is said to have been. This is why it was given the name grain linden . There was also a pear tree, which was henceforth called the hussar pear and, like the hussar oak planted 78 years after the events of 1813, no longer exists. Only the linden tree - now around 400 years old - has been able to hold its own over the centuries. In 1910 a circumference of over seven meters was determined. By June 13, 2003 it had increased to 8.16 meters (measured at the bivouac of the "IG Lützower Jäger Leipzig" in the presence of the Asmus Christian von Lützows family from the Black Forest because of the unveiling of a plaque on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of the historical events and the opening of the sports festival of SV Eintracht Eichigt).

Sports

Eichigt has a sports club. A grass pitch and a hard pitch are available for the footballers of SV Eintracht Eichigt. There is a renovated gymnasium for school sports and other sports such as table tennis or women's gymnastics. The physical well-being is taken care of in a sports home.

SV Eintracht Eichigt is a member of the Vogtland Football Association (VFV), which emerged from the district association football Vogtland / Plauen and the district association football Göltzschtal, as well as in the state sports association of Saxony. The women play in the Vogtland League, men and juniors in the 1st district class.
