history
Surname
The name Regnitzlosau is derived from the Regnitz, which flows into the Saxon Saale , and from the name of the von Lasan family.
Until the 19th century
Regnitzlosau was first mentioned in a Latin document in 1234. Cunradus, Arnoldus and Ciban “de Lasan” (von Losau) testify to a foundation made by Cunradus von Kotzau to the Speinshart monastery . At that time Regnitzlosau belonged to the Vogtland ruled by the bailiffs of Weida . In 1322 the parish Regnitzlosau, to which the chapel in Posseck belonged, was certified as independent. The entire Regnitzland came under the rule of the Burgraves of Nuremberg in 1373 . Johann Christoph von Reitzenstein on Nentschau built the baroque Hohenberg Castle from 1750 to 1752.
After the Hohenzollern area of the burgraves of Nuremberg had meanwhile belonged to the Principality of Bayreuth , Regnitzlosau came to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 . In 1872 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.
20th century
In 1906 industrialization took hold with an electricity station on the hillside of the castle. Two years later, the Friedrich Adolf Soergel textile factory was founded. Since the division of Germany in 1945, Regnitzlosau was on the border with the GDR and Czechoslovakia. Due to the reunification in 1989, many of the old connections could be re-established.
Religions
Regnitzlosau was Christianized at the beginning of the 13th century. A century later the first parish was mentioned. After the principality of Bayreuth soon accepted the Lutheran denomination, Regnitzlosau also became Protestant in 1527 . Catholics first settled back in 1810 when Regnitzlosau came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. A separate Catholic community came into being after the Second World War , when many expellees from former Catholic areas settled in Regnitzlosau. Today the majority of the population is Protestant.
Incorporations
In the course of the Bavarian municipal area reform , the formerly independent municipalities Nentschau , Prex and Schwesendorf and parts of the dissolved municipality Draisendorf were incorporated on January 1, 1972 . On July 1, 1972, Vierschau was added.
Population development
In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population fell from 2546 to 2300 by 246 or 9.7%.

coat of arms
“The coat of arms is divided; At the top there is a silver sloping beam in red, which is covered with a red distaff with a golden stem; below the coat of arms is again divided, of silver and red. The silver field is covered with a flat black clay bowl. "
- Explanation
The silver sloping bar is the coat of arms of the von Reitzenstein family and indicates the centuries-old connection between this noble family and the history of the community. The same applies to the lower silver-red division of the von Feilitzsch gender . The distaff and the clay bowl indicate formerly important branches of trade; the pottery that the bowl stands for no longer exists.
City friendships
The community is a member of the German-Czech association Friends in the Heart of Europe .
