history

Until the 19th century

In the Stammbach area there are prehistoric and early historical monuments that suggest an early settlement along the old streets. The ministerial family of the Walpoten promoted the cultivation of the Stammbach area. Different primal nobility families, some related to them, were the successors. Marktschorgast , where the Würzburg old tenth can be proven, was the starting point for further impetus for settlement. Later came the Andechs-Meranians and their heirs were briefly the Counts of Orlamünde . They were followed by the burgraves of Nuremberg and later margraves . They formed closed territories over the centuries. Information about the time around 1535 is given in the Stammbach land register . In addition to Brandenburg-Kulmbach , the Himmelkron monastery and the noble families Waldenfels , Wallenrode , Rabensteiner von Wirsberg and Reitzenstein owned there. In the 15th century the von Sparneck in Fleisnitz and in the 17th century the Baum von Baumsdorf in Stammbach were wealthy. The place Goppelsdorf has been handed down as a desert . Metzlesdorf and Roth in the direction of Steinbach were at times deserted. The margraves expanded their influence over the imperial-free knighthood and gained their possessions through the secularization of the Himmelkron monastery . A margrave monastery office continued the separate administration of the areas. Stammbach had important magistrate rights. Important branches of business were agriculture, isolated mining, market trade, handicrafts and weaving. Stammbach was hit several times by the plague and other epidemics. The former office of the Prussian Principality of Bayreuth , which had been Prussian since 1792, was in the Franconian Empire from 1500 . It fell to France in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 and became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 . Two major fires in 1800 and 1822 caused great damage. Hand weaving was a good starting point for the textile industry, which flourished in the period of industrialization, with cheap and qualified workers. In the 19th century, many people emigrated to America to escape economic hardship.

Incorporations

Stammbach belonged to the former district of Münchberg . In 1938 the municipality of Fleisnitz was incorporated. On July 1, 1972, Förstenreuth and part of the community of Straas were added. At the same time, the Münchberg district was dissolved and the community became part of the Hof district. Gundlitz was incorporated on January 1, 1978.
