Würzburg old tenth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Würzburg old tenth was a tithe to the Würzburg monastery .

When the diocese of Bamberg and the associated bishopric was founded , Bishop Eberhard I received areas from neighboring territories. For the Würzburg bishop Heinrich I , this meant a loss of territory in what is now northeast Upper Franconia. Since in the following years villages in the sphere of influence of the Bamberg bishopric continued to pay the so-called Würzburg old tenth, this is an indication that the settlements must have existed before the establishment of the Bamberg diocese in 1007. This finding is important for today's research into the history of settlements, since documentary mentions of this time are usually few or nonexistent. There are examples at Marktschorgast , Mussen , Bindlach and Berneck .
