Reiner Siegfried Thomä (born September 24, 1952 in Hermsgrün ) is a German electrical engineer . Until April 2018 he was head of the department for electronic measurement technology at the TU Ilmenau and has since retired .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1971, Thomä studied at the Julius Mosen High School in Oelsnitz / Vogtl. Information technology at the TU Ilmenau, which he graduated in 1975 as a graduate engineer. In 1983 he was in Ilmenau with a dissertation on surface acoustic waves to Dr.-Ing. PhD. In 1989 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the theory and technology of signal and system analysis using discrete Fourier transformation .

From 1988 to 1990 he conducted research in the field of radio surveillance at the Center for Scientific Instrumentation of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . After the reunification of Germany , he spent three months researching at the chair for multimedia communication and signal processing at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

On October 17, 1992, he was appointed to the chair of electronic measurement technology at the TU Ilmenau . From 1999 to 2005 he was head of the Institute for Communication and Electronic Metrology there. In 2010 he was visiting professor in the Broadband Wireless Communication Research Lab of the Chinese Academy of Sciences .

Thomä is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) , Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology (VDE) / Information Technology Society (ITG) . Since 1999 he has been a member of the supervisory board of the materials research and testing institute at the Bauhaus University Weimar . He is an elected reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) . Thomä is involved in numerous national and international research groups.
