Radio monitoring is the recording, location and evaluation of electromagnetic emissions by the competent regulatory or licensing authority .
The purpose is to monitor compliance with radio emission regulations and to correct electromagnetic interference . It is the civilian form of signal detection reconnaissance ( SIGINT ), as operated by the military and intelligence services.
The radio monitoring is carried out in Germany by the testing and measuring service of the Federal Network Agency , in Austria by the telecommunications offices in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism and in Switzerland by the Federal Office of Communication .
