Electrical engineer

Electrical engineer is the professional title for an engineer of electrical engineering .

In the Federal Republic of Germany , this profession can be learned in corresponding courses at technical colleges , (technical) universities and vocational academies .

Which was the world studying electrical engineering for the first time in 1883 at the Technical University of Darmstadt established. So far it has been completed at universities, technical colleges or universities of applied sciences with an academic degree as a graduate engineer (Dipl.-Ing., TU / TH / FH) . Graduates from vocational academies were given the state designation Dipl.-Ing. (BA) awarded.

Since 2010, courses with a diploma have hardly been offered any more. In the course of the Bologna process , only bachelor's and subsequent master’s degree programs are largely offered that conclude with the academic degree “ Bachelor of Engineering / Science ” - Electrical Engineering or “ Master of Engineering / Science ”. The title of electrical engineer or engineer are legally protected titles. The first academic degree (Bachelor) enables the legally protected title of “ engineer ” or “electrical engineer” to be used.

Due to special features of the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act, some Saxon universities such as the TU Dresden continue to offer a diploma course ( Section 39 of the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act).

The field of electrical engineering is so extensive that the corresponding courses of study only deepen certain sub-areas after a joint basic course , such as telecommunications , communication technology , high-frequency technology , energy technology , microelectronics , microsystem technology or automation technology .

In 2018 there were 393,600 electrical engineers who were subject to social security contributions in Germany.
