About this picture

The Muldentalkreis was a district in the north of Saxony , which existed from 1994 until the district reform in Saxony on August 1, 2008. Neighboring districts were the Delitzsch district in the north, the Torgau-Oschatz district in the northeast and east, the Döbeln district in the southeast, the Mittweida district in the south and the Leipziger Land district in the west .

geography

The circle was named after its main river , the Mulde . The Mulde arises in the south of the district from the confluence of the Freiberger Mulde and Zwickauer Mulde and flows through the former district from south to north.

history

The district was created in 1994 by amalgamating the Grimma and Wurzen districts . Some communities around Bad Lausick, which belonged to other districts, also came to the district. On August 1, 2008, the Muldental District was merged with the previous district of Leipziger Land in the new district of Leipzig .

On September 23, 2008, the region received the title “ Place of Diversity ” awarded by the federal government .

coat of arms

The silver lines in the coat of arms symbolized the Mulde river and its two source rivers. The green color symbolized the forests and the three flower symbols stood for the two previous districts (Wurzen and Grimma) and the other communities that merged to form the Muldental district.

politics

Gerhard Gey (CDU) was the District Administrator of the Muldental District. Klaus-Jürgen Linke (CDU) was alderman.
