The city of Nerchau is now part of the large district town of Grimma in the Saxon district of Leipzig .

Nerchau is located in the valley of the United Mulde between Grimma and Wurzen in the Leipzig district in Saxony .

history

It was first mentioned by Thietmar von Merseburg in 974 as Nirichua , which King Otto II left to the Merseburg Monastery.

In 1232 the Burgward Nerechowe is sold by the Archbishopric of Magdeburg to the Hochstift Naumburg. Thus, when the Merseburg diocese was dissolved in the meantime, Nerchau went to the archbishopric in 981 and was not removed again when the Merseburg diocese was restored, which Thietmar laments in his chronicle.

On January 1, 1952, the previously independent community of Gornewitz was incorporated.

On January 1, 2011, the merger with Grimma was completed.

Economy and Transport

The Autobahn 14 runs south of the village , the closest junctions are Grimma and Mutzschen . Nerchau had a train station on the Glauchau – Wurzen (Muldentalbahn) railway line, which has now been closed . The district of Gornewitz had a stop at the Mügeln – Neichen narrow-gauge railway, which is now also closed .

Nerchau is best known for the paint factory founded by the Hessel brothers in 1834, which today belongs to the British Daler-Rowney group and was previously one of the main employers in the region as VEB Kali-Chemie paint factory Nerchau.

In addition, the Nerchauer Brauhaus brewery has been active in Nerchau since 2011 . In addition to other varieties, the regional specialty Nerchauer Pumpernickel, known since the 16th century, is brewed here.
