Fremdiswalde is a village in the Leipzig district in Saxony . Politically, the place belongs to Grimma .

history

The first mention of Fridemiswalde or Fredemiswalde dates from 1330 in a document from Meißen bishop Withego II. Von Colditz. The establishment of the place by German colonists took place in the course of the 12th century. The wall paintings uncovered in the Romanesque church of Fremdiswalde are dated to around 1250. Both the form of the corridor and the place name speak for a German foundation of the village. The latter probably goes back to a mutilation of the personal name Fridemund.

From 1994 to 2010 Fremdiswalde belonged to the former town of Nerchau . The village is the only municipal institution with a kindergarten.

Evangelical Church of Fremdiswalde

The oldest building in the village is the Romanesque choir tower church from the first third of the 13th century, which has been rebuilt several times.

The former monk Johann Jakob Klappe served as pastor of Fremdiswalde from 1529 to 1536. During his tenure he introduced the Reformation in town.

In 1766 the church was damaged by fire. After the fire, a tall tower with a Welscher dome , which was oversized for the small building, was added to the church . This was demolished in 1973 because it was in disrepair and replaced by a smaller tower reminiscent of the original Romanesque design language.

The aforementioned fire in 1766 also destroyed the rectory and with it all older records, in particular the parish registers of Fremdiswalde. In 1774 the new parsonage, which still exists today, could be occupied.
