Grottewitz is a district of the city of Grimma in the Leipzig district in Saxony .
history
The original dead end village was first mentioned in writing in 1030 as Grothomici in connection with a donation from Otto III. to Margrave Hermann. During the first Protestant church visitation in 1529, Grottewitz was also mentioned with the following words: "The Grotowitz church game includes the following villages: Grotowitz with 6 horse men and 1 gardener ". It was recorded as belonging to the Döben manor in 1551, 1696 and 1764.
In 1819 , August Schumann mentions Grottewitz in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:
- “It has 45 inhabitants, 5 ¾ hooves , 13 horses, 42 cows, 88 sheep, is parish in Nerchau, and belongs in writing. to the manor Döben. "
On July 1, 1950, Löbschütz was incorporated, followed by Zaschwitz on January 1, 1952.
In 1964 Grottewitz was incorporated into Nerchau . With the incorporation of the city of Nerchau into Grimma, it has belonged to the latter since January 1, 2011.

In Grottewitz there is an organic farm, a timber trade and the company "Hans Hebetechnik + Metallbau", which was founded in 1886 as a forge and locksmith's shop and is known throughout Germany.
