Hohnstädt is a district of the Saxon city of Grimma in the district of Leipzig . Politically, the place has belonged to Grimma since 1952. Before it was an independent municipality with the districts: Burgberg, Hohnstädt and Böhlen. The commercial areas around Hohnstädt are sometimes also referred to as "Grimma Nord", but this name is not widely used.
Geographical location
Hohnstädt is north of downtown Grimma, to the east is the Mulde . To the north, Hohnstädt borders the federal motorway 14 and the community of Trebsen . In the west, the Grimma bypass limits the place.

Hohnstädt was first named "Hoenstat" in 1269. Other name changes were:

Manor
There was a manor in Hohnstädt, of which only the manor house and a few farm buildings have survived today.
Göschen in Hohnstädt
The publisher Georg Joachim Göschen owned a former horse farm in Hohnstädt as a summer residence from 1795 during his lifetime. From 1812 this was his permanent residence, which he kept until his death.

Göschenhaus
The horse farm that Göschen bought is now known as the " Göschenhaus ". Renate Sturm-Francke acquired the Göschenhaus in 1934 and over the years set up a home parlor that opened in 1950. Today the “Museum Göschenhaus” is housed in the Göschenhaus and can be visited together with the associated park. The museum is the only publishing museum in Germany.
Mansion
The manor house Hohnstädt was part of the Hohnstädt manor and was probably built around 1700 by the von Döring family. After 1945 it was used as a kindergarten and has been empty since the 1990s. In the mansion there is a so-called "Mendelssohn Hall". The manor house was acquired by two entrepreneurs from Grimma in 2019 , is to be renovated and used as a daycare center.
Böhlen-Hohnstädt manor
The manor in Böhlen was first named as "allodium Belin" in 1393 and in 1606 as a manor. In 1814 the manor is described as follows:
“Böhlen, village, but rather a mere manor in the Leipzig district, in Erbamte Grimma, 1/2 hour from the city of Grimma north on the left bank on the Mulde. The 24 houses built on Ritergut's land contain 112 residents and 2 cows, so they are mere cottagers. "
The manor had a closed courtyard with a detached manor house. However, this was canceled in the period from 1945 to 1949. The owner of the manor was, among others, the von Döring family who also owned the manor Hohnstädt. Some farm buildings are owned by the Reit- und Fahrverein Grimma e. V. used. The gatehouse, which was built in 1628, was handed over to the "Colorado beetle gang Grimma" by the city of Grimma in 2008. and completely restored by this.

There is a volunteer fire brigade in Hohnstädt that is part of the Grimma community fire brigade . The Hohnstädt fire brigade was founded on February 11, 1939. In 2010 the fire station was rebuilt and a new LF 10 was purchased to replace the 30-year-old predecessor, a Robur LF 8-TS8 .

In Hohnstädt, the federal road 107 splits into the part that runs through the town of Grimma and the bypass that ends on the S11 in the direction of Großbardau . In addition, the federal highway 14 runs north with junction 31 “Grimma”.
education
One of the three primary schools in the local area of the city of Grimma is the "Hohnstädt primary school". This is housed in the buildings of the former Bruno Lau POS, and the new Hohnstädt sports hall was built on the site of the former “Hohnstädt weighing technology”.
