Karl Gottlob Hausius

Karl Gottlob Hausius (born March 31, 1754 in Fremdiswalde ; † June 7, 1825 in Backleben ) was a German Protestant clergyman and writer .

Life

Karl Gottlob Hausius was the son of pastor Albert Carl Traugott Hausius (* 1720, † 1768) and his wife Rahel Sophie (née Richter). He also had a brother, who later became a lawyer in Dresden , and a sister, who, however, died in her youth.

He attended the local school and received additional classes in Latin and Greek from a preacher. During his school days he already composed a few songs and pieces of music for the Leipzig Almanac.

In 1767 he came to the Thomas School to the rector Johann Friedrich Fischer in Leipzig and in 1773 he matriculated at the University of Leipzig to study philology and biblical exegesis . He attended the philosophical, historical and mathematical lectures given by Christian Gottlieb Seydlitz , Christian August Crusius , Ernst Platner , Johann August Ernesti , Johann Friedrich Burscher , Georg Heinrich Borz and Johann Carl Gehler ; in physics and natural history it was Christian Ludwig , Nathanael Gottfried Leske , in history and poetry Johann Georg Eck and Johann Gottlieb Theophil Bosseck in the Hebrew language and Friedrich Immanuel Schwarz , Samuel Friedrich Nathanael More and Johann Friedrich Burscher in theology. His studies were supported by several scholarships ; He received further support from Christian Gottlieb Seydlitz, who appointed him his assistant and entrusted him with teaching his children.

On February 10, 1780 , he received his master's degree from the Philosophical Faculty .

Through his acquaintance with the bookseller Johann Gottlob Immanuel Breitkopf , for whom he also worked as a proofreader , he was accepted into the literary circles of Leipzig, where he came to the house of the mayor Heinrich Friedrich Innocenz Apel and met his son August Apel , with whom he had a lifelong friendship.

In 1799 he was appointed pastor in Altenbeichlingen by Privy Councilor Count von Werthern ; In 1809 he took over the parish in Backleben and Battgendorf near Sangerhausen . Two schools were subordinate to him. He campaigned for the improvement of teaching material and the introduction of new teaching methods and also set up a reading circle for the neighboring school teachers. He also taught the Count's daughter, Luise Clara von Werthern-Beichlingen (* 1798), who later married the Saxon ambassador to Spain , Hans Heinrich von Könneritz .

In 1799 Karl Gottlob Hausius married Christiane Erdmuthe, daughter of the Magdeborn pastor Alfred Carl Gotthelf Opitz (1749–1823), together they had three daughters and a son.

Writing

He published in the Musen-Almanach , in the musical Potpurri , in 1788 and 1789 in the Leipziger Frauenzimmeralmanach and made numerous articles in the Allgemeine Litterarian Zeitung as well as in the Litterarian Zeitung for Germany's elementary school teachers , among other things he wrote the writings Ueber Raum und Zeit and materials for one History of critical philosophy who dealt with the philosophy of Immanuel Kant . He also published some writings that dealt with natural history and geography.
