Johann Friedrich Fischer (born October 10, 1726 in Coburg , † October 11, 1799 in Leipzig ) was a German philosopher and philologist .

Life

Fischer was born in 1726 as the son of the general superintendent in Coburg. He attended the city school and the pedagogy in Coburg. From 1744 to 1747 he studied at the University of Leipzig . His roommate in Leipzig was Gotthold Ephraim Lessing . Fischer obtained a Baccalaureus in 1747. In 1751 he became vice principal at the Thomas School in Leipzig . He focused on teaching ancient languages. In 1762 he became an associate professor of ancient literature in Leipzig. From 1767 to 1799 he held the post of rector . He died in Leipzig in 1799. His successor was Friedrich Wilhelm Ehrenfried Rost .
