Hellmuth Heinze

Hellmuth Heinze (born April 22, 1892 in Leipzig ; † 1979 ) was a German classical philologist and educator .

Life

Heinze attended the St. Thomas School from 1903 to 1912 and was a member of the St. Thomas Choir . Then he began studying Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig . From 1914 to 1918 he served as a non-commissioned officer in the First World War. He then studied classical philology and passed the state examination.

In 1945 he became the rector of the Gaudig School of Reformed Education in Leipzig. In the same year he took over the rectorate of the St. Thomas School and at the same time the head of the St. Thomas Choir. Heinze taught German, history, religion and Latin. During his term of office, the St. Thomas Choir was brought back to Leipzig from the Grimma State School . He was a member of the CDU (culture and school committee) and the FDGB . In 1950 the head of studies left his hometown after differences with the regime and emigrated to West Germany. His successor was the classical philologist Heinz Nöbert .
