Klaus Lindner

Klaus Lindner (born March 19, 1935 ) is a German astronomer , teacher and author .

Life

Klaus Lindner studied education at the University of Leipzig . In December 1966, with his dissertation “Investigations into the methodology of astronomy teaching in general secondary schools with special consideration of astrophysics”, he was awarded a Dr. paed. PhD. From then until his retirement he worked as a teacher. Lindner made particular contributions to the organization of astronomy lessons in the GDR and later in Saxony. He made a name for himself as the author of numerous astronomical books, was involved in the development of curricula for the subject of astronomy and passed on his knowledge in the training of astronomy teachers.

From 1993 to 1999 he was rector of the Thomas School in Leipzig . At the 1999 Astronomy Conference in Buxtehude , he gave the much-acclaimed lecture: “From the cosmos to the earth?” With this he gave decisive impulses for astronomy lessons in Germany.

Klaus Lindner is a member of the Astronomical Society and is active in its astronomy commission in teaching and teaching . From his retirement until 2014 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Astronomie + Raumfahrt im Lehr , of which he has been a member of the editorial and editorial board since 1965 until today.

Lindner lives in Leipzig.

Awards

In 2000, Klaus Lindner was recognized by the Astronomical Society “for his decades of dedicated work as a teacher in the field of astronomy, his tireless commitment to astronomical and didactic research and his significant contribution to the preparation of curricula and teaching material, which largely shaped and has also given significant impulses for teaching in the old federal states of Germany ”was awarded the Hans-Ludwig-Neumann-Prize .

In the same year he received the Johannes Kepler Prize awarded by Cornelsen Verlag in Stuttgart for promoting astronomy lessons .

The asteroid (21678) Lindner was named after him.
