Ella Guru , actually Ella Drauglis , (born May 24, 1966 in Ohio ) is an American musician and painter .

Life

After studying at Ohio State University in Columbus , Ella Drauglis went to England , where she has lived in London since 1991 .

Ella Guru founded the London independent band Voodoo Queen together with Anjali Bhatia in the late summer of 1992 . The band consists of Anjali Bhatia (guitar, vocals), Ella Guru (guitar, backing vocals), Stefania Lucchesini (drums), Rajni Bhatia (keyboards) and Anjula Bhasker (bass). Rebecca Lunn later joined the band because Anjula Bhasker had to leave the band for a family visit to India. In January 1993, they entered into the known one BBC Radio telecast Peel Session of John Peel on. Other radio and TV appearances followed, including two more peel sessions.

The first Stuckist group, 1999

In 1999 Ella Guru was one of the twelve founding members of the Stuckists , an international art movement founded as an alternative to the Young British Artists sponsored by Charles Saatchi . Although originally founded as a movement for new figurative painting, today stuckism is an association of artists from a wide variety of fields and styles. She takes part in demonstrations against the Turner Prize , a British art prize named after the painter William Turner , in front of the Tate Gallery . In the same year she was named Painter of the Year by the Amsterdam Gay News .

In 2001 she married Sexton Ming (* 1961), an English eccentric and artist. At the wedding he wore the wedding dress and she appeared as the groom. So far, a daughter, Lucy (* 2004), emerged from the mutual connection.
