Astronomy + space travel

The magazine Astronomie + Raumfahrt im Studium has been a specialist magazine for the subject of astronomy and for teaching astronomical topics in other subjects as well as in adult education , which has been published since 1964 .

It was founded in 1964 by Helmut Bernhard under the title “ Astronomy in School ” and was published by Volk und Wissen Verlag until 1990 . In 1991 Friedrich Verlag took over the magazine. Since 1996 it has been published under the title Astronomy + Space Travel in Classes .

concept

Astronomy + Space Travel in Classes is the only German-language magazine that deals with astronomy-didactic and technical issues relating to astronomy and space travel. It is their concern to accompany the lessons in astronomy (both as a subject as well as in the course and elective areas within the physics, mathematics and geography lessons) in a professional and didactic manner.

The authors include renowned specialist astronomers as well as teachers and amateur astronomers. The content orientation is based on a combination of specialist articles and contributions to the design of the lesson with information on current observation possibilities in the sky. Each issue has a main topic, such as “Technical work in astronomy lessons”, “Non-optical astronomy”, “The newly discovered moon”, “Ancient astronomy”, “Orientation to the starry sky”, “How big is the cosmos”.

A didactically prepared projection film for the lesson is enclosed with each booklet. Once a year there is a poster “The sky run in the school year”. All important dates for astronomical observations with students are summarized on it in a calendar overview; this makes long-term planning of such observations much easier.

editor

From 2000 to 2014, the Leipzig astronomy didactic Klaus Lindner was editor of the magazine. With the 2011 class, Oliver Schwarz , Professor of Physics and Head of the University Observatory at the University of Siegen, joined him. Oliver Schwarz has been the sole editor since 2014. Jürgen Hamel has been the editor-in-chief since 2014 .
