Christian Gottlieb Seydlitz

Christian Gottlieb Seydlitz (also: Christoph Gottlob Seidlitz or Christianus Theophilus Seydlitius ; * October 18, 1730 in Meerane , † January 5, 1808 in Leipzig ) was a German physicist and logician.

Life

Christian Gottlieb Seydlitz was the son of the pharmacist Georg Gottlieb Seydlitz and his wife Eva Dorothea (née Friderici), the daughter of an organ builder. After graduating from high school in Gera , he began studying at the University of Leipzig . Here he acquired the degree of master's degree in 1754 . In 1767 he received the degree of Baccalaureus at the theological faculty . In the same year he succeeded Johann Christoph Gottsched as professor of logic and metaphysics. He remained in this office until the end of his life and also took part in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University during this time. He had been dean of the philosophical faculty several times and in the winter semester of 1777 rector of the alma mater .

Since 1782 he belonged to the Leipzig Freemason Lodge Minerva to the three palm trees .
