history

Battgendorf was first mentioned in documents in 1168. A larger Jewish community had settled in the village in the 13th century, and in 1298 it fell victim to the Rintfleisch pogrom . After that there was no further evidence of Jewish life in the village. Around 1500 Battgendorf belonged to the Frohndorf rule . On 1 July 1950, the city of Kölleda was, at that time the district Eckartsberga , incorporated .

In the years 2000 to 2002 Battgendorf was one of the funding priorities in the district of Sömmerda , with considerable subsidies for public and private construction measures. The local bus traffic is regulated by the public transport company Sömmerda und Weimar mbH, a company in the districts of Sömmerda and Weimarer Land. Battgendorf is served by the 211 buses.

Culture and sights

  • the Battgendorfer St. Katharinen Church is a monument and a Protestant church. A documentation in the entrance area explains the building history. The original nave had to be demolished in the GDR period due to static problems. The church tower was preserved, to which a newly built, but smaller in size nave was added in 2006. The foundations of the previous building were made visible as a construction requirement. The organ of the church first came to Erfurt in the Barfüßerkirche and is now in the Petruskirche in Halle-Wörmlitz.
  • the Protestant parsonage is the oldest residential building in the local area. The half-timbered building, which had been empty for years, has fallen into disrepair.
  • There is a watermill in Battgendorf , today it is part of the 80 km long Thuringian Mill Trail from Großrudestedt to Buttstädt
  • the former village school is not far from the church
  • the train station at the former Finnebahn stop is used as a meeting place for young people.
  • On the edge of the village next to the sports field is the Hallonge ground monument , it is a flat Neolithic burial mound , probably from the second half of the 3rd millennium BC. An oak tree that was struck by lightning used to stand on the hill.
