The St. Petrus Church is in Wörmlitz , a district of Halle (Saale) . The parish of Wörmlitz-Böllberg belongs to the Halle-Saalkreis parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Structure and history

The church originally dates from the 12th century and was built in Romanesque style. The first documentary mention dates back to 1184. The west transverse tower of this original building is still preserved today. In the middle of the 18th century it was substantially rebuilt in the baroque style. The nave was lengthened. In 1856/57 a three-sided gallery was built. In 1967 a fire completely destroyed the interior of the church except for the stone parts of the altar , the baptismal font and the epitaph on the north wall. The reconstruction has been carried out gradually since 1994. So far, the tower has been renovated, the roof re-covered, windows installed and a barrel vault drawn in. The church is used for church services and cultural events.

St. Peter is surrounded by a cemetery. To the right and left of the entrance there are memorial plaques for those who died in the First World War from the village of Wörmlitz.

The organist and composer Samuel Scheidt was married in the church. St. Petrus is located on the Saale cycle path and is one of the cycling churches in Saxony-Anhalt. Protestant services are held in it.

organ

The church had a Rühlmann organ from 1938, which was destroyed in the church fire. In 2011 an organ was installed again. It is an instrument that originally came from a church in Battgendorf near Kölleda . From there it was moved to the Barfüßerkirche in Erfurt in 1960 and got a new work. Finally the organ came to Wörmlitz. It has ten registers on two manuals and pedal and around 700 pipes .
