Thümmlitzwalde was the name of a municipality in the Free State of Saxony formed in 1994 by the merger of the then independent municipalities Böhlen , Dürrweitzschen , Leipnitz , Ragewitz and Zschoppach . On January 1, 2011, this merged with the large district town of Grimma .

Thümmlitzwalde was created on March 1, 1994 through the voluntary amalgamation of the five communities Böhlen, Dürrweitzschen, Leipnitz, Ragewitz and Zschoppach.

The municipality got its name from the approximately 1500 hectare forest area of ​​the " Thümmlitz ". Contemporary witnesses are the numerous stones of the Thümmlitz, marked by the people with mysterious symbols and used as legal symbols.

On December 31, 2010 the community had 3,158 inhabitants. The municipality covered 55.88 km².

The largest employer in the region is Obstland AG , based in Dürrweitzschen. Ragewitzer Agrarproduktions-GmbH also works on numerous areas for agriculture. The numerous wind energy systems of various types in the districts of Bröhsen, Zeunitz and Pöhsig are striking. There is a biogas plant in Ragewitz.
