Place of Diversity is an initiative launched in 2007 by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration , the aim of which is to bring municipalities, cities and districts in Germany to to strengthen their commitment to cultural diversity. This initiative is from the federal programs Diversity is good for you. Youth for diversity, tolerance and democracy and competent. for democracy - advisory networks against right-wing extremism emerged. The federal program Promoting Tolerance - Strengthening Competence has been continuing the two federal programs under one roof since January 1, 2011.

The initiative is supported by the federal states , the municipal umbrella organizations , the economy , the trade unions and other organizations. Committed communities, cities and districts are awarded a sign “Place of Diversity”.

The funding phase ended at the end of 2011 and was extended to the end of 2014. Many of the cities are continuing the program.
