The Warnow flows through the south of the former district .

coat of arms

DEU Bad Doberan district COA.svg

The coat of arms was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on December 5, 1995 and registered under the number 96 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Blazon : “Divided by a lying silver abbot's staff with the curvature turned forwards and upwards; above, in blue, a striding golden griffin with an upturned tail and a knocked out red tongue; below in gold a looking black bull's head with a closed mouth, a knocked out red tongue and silver horns, on the forehead a golden crown of princes, of which five prongs alternately decorated with lilies and pearls are visible. "

The coat of arms was designed by Manfred Gerth from Freudenberg .

The coat of arms of the district was formed from the coat of arms of Rostock and Bad Doberan during the district reform . It consists of:

  • the golden griffin on a blue background, which symbolizes the former affiliation of some areas to Rostock,
  • the Werlschen bull's head, which represents the earlier affiliation of some areas to the Werle lordship , and
  • the silver crook on the dividing line of the coat of arms, which represents ecclesiastical properties. He also remembers the Cistercian community founded in Althof in 1160 , which moved to Doberan in 1186 .

flag

The flag of the district is evenly striped lengthways of gold (yellow) and blue. In the middle, at two thirds of the height of the golden (yellow) and blue stripes, is the coat of arms of the district. The height of the flag is related to the length like 3: 5.
