From the village of Bargeshagen, which lies at a height of approx. 15 meters, the terrain slopes down in a northerly direction and lies in the meadow lowlands between the villages of Admannshagen and Neu Rethwisch at one meter above the water level. There are no forest areas in the municipality.

The community consists of the districts of Admannshagen, Admannshagen expansion, Bargeshagen, Rabenhorst and Steinbeck.
history
Steinbeck was first mentioned in a document in 1273; it followed in 1273 Rabenhorst, 1286 Bargeshagen and 1302 Admannshagen. The history of these four villages is closely linked to the Doberan monastery , as the villages had to pay taxes to the monastery and Rabenhorst was a monastery property. Rabenhorst belongs to the parish of the Rethwisch parish , but was temporarily part of the Parkentiner parish around 1300 .
In 1843 a copy of the Wendish crown was found near Admannshagen . It was in an urn in a low burial mound. The ring was broken and bent when it was found. With the exception of the hinge pin, it was not made of bronze, but of copper.
According to the Niekammerschem freight address book from 1921, the 120 hectare Steinbeck estate belonged to Paul Beese.
The merger of the places to form today's municipality took place in 1962.
The proximity of the municipality to Rostock and the Baltic Sea led to a brisk construction activity after 1990, the number of inhabitants tripled from 1993 to 2003.
