Rethwisch village church

The Rethwisch village church is the church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Rethwisch in the Rostock district . The community belongs to the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

history

In 1299 a clergyman from the Doberan monastery was employed in Rabenhorst. In the war damage calculation of 1312 on the damage caused by the conflict between the Rostockers under Nikolaus and the troops of Henry the Lion , an administrator (magister curie) of the Doberan monastery as well as a churchyard and sexton was mentioned. 1353 was first written about a church called "capella Redwisch", a year later "ecclesia Redewisch" was called. It was mentioned that the church was previously located in Rabenhorst, but had now taken its seat in Rethwisch. After the Reformation , in 1552 the monastery property was transferred to the lordly Domanialverband.

Building description

The church was built from field stones and brick at the beginning of the 14th century . The three-aisled nave is older than the choir, closed with an octagon , and the west tower, which is made of wood and has a four-sided helmet . The roof is covered with tiles of the monk and nun type , the side aisles have pent roofs . The nave and the aisles are separated by two pillars each with Gothic arches. The choir has a vaulted ceiling, the central and side aisles are closed with a flat wooden ceiling. A sacristy is attached to the north side of the choir and a vestibule to the south of the nave. After 2001 numerous restorations were carried out, whereby the sacristy, a historical bell, the pulpit, the baptismal angel , the windows, the interior decoration and the church tower were repaired.

Interior decoration

The altarpiece consists of a triptych and a predella . The middle part of the altar shows the crucifixion scene with about 40 carved figures, on the right and left niches with the depiction of saints. In the wings of the altar there are four figures or groups of figures on each side: Saint Catherine, a group of the Holy Trinity, Magdalena, Jacobus, Christophorus and Andreas. In the predella there are eight figures: sitting Christ and Mary, standing Stephen, Barbara, the apostle Paul, the apostle Peter, Catherine and Laurentius. The costume of the figures suggests that it originated in the middle of the 16th century.

The pulpit with richly carved work dates from 1666, the altar barriers from 1646. On the north wall of the choir there is a Gothic tabernacle . The choir window behind the altar is decorated with glass paintings depicting a crucifixion scene. The organ is a work by Friedrich Wilhelm Winzer from 1869 with today 11 stops on two manuals and pedal , which was heavily redesigned and rebuilt in 1962 by the Sauer Orgelbau company .
