Bernitt is a large community in the west of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The community is administered by the Bützow-Land office , based in the city of Bützow .
geography
The municipality is located about ten kilometers northeast of Bützow and takes up almost the entire part of the Rugberg , the southern part of a ground moraine , which extends to the cooling near the Baltic Sea coast . Bernitt borders in the west on the district of Northwest Mecklenburg . The nature reserve Hohe Burg and Schwarzer See lies in the wooded Rugberg area . The Langen Berg (147 m above sea level) and the Hohen Burg (144 m above sea level) are the highest peaks in northern Mecklenburg. The Black Lake is the highest moor lake in Mecklenburg.
Bernitt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Jürgenshagen in the north, Klein Belitz and Penzin in the northeast, Bützow in the east, Steinhagen in the southeast, Rühn and Baumgarten in the south, Warin and Lübberstorf in the southwest and Glasin in the west.

history
Bernitt was first mentioned in a document in 1233 and therein belonged to the Rühn monastery . The village of Brunit , initially inhabited by Slavs , was later settled by German deforestation farmers. The Waldhufendorf became a domanial village in the 18th century after having been part of the monastery for over 500 years. Every year in autumn there is a "flying market" in Bernitt - combined with a festival. This tradition goes back to the middle of the 18th century.

In 1835 a second class for 125 pupils was set up in the school in Bernitt. The school building, which was already old at the time, was expanded. In 1865 Neu-Bernitt was allowed to build his own school. The school position was initially occupied by Wilhelm Greve. In 1885 there were 596 residents in Bernitt and 182 in Neu-Bernitt.
In 1887 a steam dairy was put into operation on a cooperative basis. The Steinhagen and Kurzen Trechow estates also initially joined the cooperative.
On February 22, 1953, six cooperative farmers founded the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG) Rosa Luxemburg . The kindergarten was opened in the same year. In 1954, the LPG expanded through further operations. The cultivation of the agricultural land in Bernitt and Neu-Bernitt took place on a fully cooperative basis from 1960. Three type I cooperatives were created . The children from Bernitt and the surrounding area were able to move into the new school building in 1956.
From 1963 to 1965 a central water supply was installed in the village. In 1966, the two multi-family houses with 36 residential units each were completed.
The Catholic Antonius Chapel existed in Bernitt from 1953 to 2002, and the building is now used as a ceramic workshop.
Today, Bernitt is the school location for the surrounding towns (elementary, secondary and secondary schools).
History of the districts
Glambeck was named as Glambicke in 1178 . During the GDR era, there was a holiday camp in Glambeck .
Göllin was built around 1175.
Hermannshagen was probably owned by the Rühn monastery in 1233. The manor house dates from 1769.
Jabelitz name suggests a Slavic settlement. It was mentioned in a document in the 16th century.
Kurzen Trechow was first mentioned in 1321 and called Wendisch Trechow in the 15th century . The manor house Burg Trechow was built in the early 19th century in the historicizing style of the early Renaissance .
Langen Trechow was mentioned in 1287 as Teutsch Trechow . The foundation of a chapel dates from 1329, the construction of this chapel Langen Trechow from 1691. In 1823 a copy of the Wendish crown was found during the construction of a barn near Langen Trechow , which in the 19th century became the historical symbol of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg and its states Mecklenburg- Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz became.
Moisall was mentioned in 1264 and since then has been a parish with an early Gothic church from 1264. The manor house dates from 1912.
New Bernitt was from 1816 a settlement with small farms (Büdner). In 1865 a school was established for Neu-Bernitt.
Schlemmin was founded in 1248 and was a forest workers' settlement. The Schlemmin television tower was built in 1965/67. In 1992 an extension mast was installed.
Viezen was called Vitzen in 1355 . The manor house from around 1900 was renovated. In 1995 the place was incorporated into Bernitt.
Population development
Until 1945 Bernitt had about 140 inhabitants. Due to displaced persons and refugees after the end of World War II, the population increased sharply; In 1946 there were 296 inhabitants in the community. With the incorporation of Viezen on July 1, 1995 and the formerly independent municipalities of Göllin, Kurzen Trechow, Moisall and Schlemmin on January 1, 2000, 1730 inhabitants (2010) were registered. This number is falling slightly.

- Gothic village church Bernitt made of hewn granite stones with brick elements from the end of the 13th century with a nave from around 1280, indented choir from around 1240, square. - Neoclassical , two-storey Moisall manor from 1912 with a medium risalit based on plans by Paul Korff ; after 2009 renovated guest house with a small park.
- Schlemmin television tower ; After renovations in 1992, a 98 m high telecommunications tower. Since then, the viewing platform has not been allowed to enter.
- Agricultural Museum Viezen, opened in 1990 in the former forge.
Transport links
The connecting roads from Bützow via Kröpelin to Kühlungsborn and from Bützow via Neukloster to Wismar run through the community area . The federal highway 20 leads north past Bernitt (junction Kröpelin and Neukloster ). The closest train station is in the town of Bützow.
