history
Kassow could be derived from kaczka (duck, duck area) or from kase (grits). The first notarization of the Kassow estate as a knightly fief is from 1593, when it was sold by Ludwig Fineken. From 1767 to 1790 there was a ducal trial against Lieutenant Colonel von Wackerbarth and his heirs (pledge holder von Kassow) because of the laying of the last farmers in Kassow. The estate with shares in Oettelin passed into the possession of the lieutenant colonel around 1778.
In the Werle district there was a Slavic castle in the 12th century. The rulership of the Princes zu Werle, a medieval branch line of the Mecklenburg Princely House, who ruled the Principality of Werle from the 13th to the 15th century, was named after her .
