history

Many excavations show that the area was already populated 5000 years ago in the Neolithic and 2500 years ago in the Bronze Age.
From 1249 to 1314 the districts that were of Slavic origin were mentioned in a document.

On January 1, 1951, the previously independent communities of Bukow, Hohen Mistorf, Neu Sührkow and Pohnstorf were incorporated.

Sührkow appears in a document as Scurekendorp in 1297 . At the beginning of the 18th century there were a few glassworks in the area around the Hardtberg, the charcoal required for this was obtained from the then large oak forest. Today the community is shaped by agriculture and tourism.

Alt Sührkow was first mentioned in 1297 as the property of a knight Friedrich Moltke .

Bukow : Here peat was cut in the moor, burned in a brick factory.

Hohen Mistorf is characterized by the early Gothic village church made of field and brick with its massive, low west tower, which dates back to the 2nd half of the 13th century.

Neu Sührkow was mentioned in 1770 as a pertinence (part of an estate) with its scattered courtyards.

Pohnstorf : Gut Pohnstorf was owned by families von Stahl (16th century), Wichert (1848), Moennich (from 1869) and Wessel (from 1896 or 1899), who built the mausoleum in the manor park around 1900. The manor house was created through renovation work in the middle of the 19th century. From around 1810 gravel was mined and cement was produced in the village.
